It's one of those situations you can't win at because people will try to find any reason to claim you are racist and discounting any evidence that you're not, even going as far as to claim any proof you try to provide showing you're not racist as just being a cover-up for you actually being racist. One of the longest lasting family friends I have is a black woman, one of my closest personal friends is a black man, another of my good friends is Mexican, and I'm married to a black woman. Yet despite all of that someone is still going to say I'm a closeted racist, and pay themselves on the back for "unmasking" me as one.
