Welfare is not just unemployment, but also housing assistance, food assistance, SSI, and others. These programs help to keep people working, keep them from getting so sick or malnourished that they are not able to work, and help prop up the economy.
Paying a portion of the transportation costs of someone who cannot other get to work obviously helps the work force. Paying to help someone feed their child helps them to be productive (and raises more productive children). Paying to keep people healthy helps keep them working and helps to keep them spreading disease. These programs often help the working class and usually help every class indirectly by allowing the countey to keep its spending economy. --- "We live in a country Hasire.." ~ yosouf06 REVOLVER STAKE! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v717/ChocoboMog123/AltEisenRChocoboMog.png ... Entire families living carefree in trailers and projects for free? Welfare reform is such a mess of a subject though, has been for decades. This is ridiculous. You literally cannot live anywhere in the US on minimum wage alone. When people cannot afford food and shelter, they cannot afford to live, cannot afford to have a job. It is better for them, at that point, to beg and scavenge. We don't want people at that point, we want them working successfully and healthily. Usually families living "for free" are living on disability, for some reason. I can personally tell you, it's hard as hell to get disability in some states. Those families may not be able to work, for some reason or another, and probably have a social worker trying to fit some of them into a job they can maintain. Sometimes what looks like welfare abuse is not, and normal welfare use may be otherwise invisible to outsiders. --- "We live in a country Hasire.." ~ yosouf06 REVOLVER STAKE! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v717/ChocoboMog123/AltEisenRChocoboMog.png ... People on welfare are the working class Nobody fucking knows what "the working class" is. But if you as a democratic candidate don't use that phrase now-a-days, prepare to be crucified. Generally speaking, I think most use it as a stand in for middle class to make it seem like they care about the poor, meanwhile they couldn't give a shit. --- =E[(x-E[x])(y-E[y])] ... Consumer spending drives our economy. Without public assistance, the poor struggle to keep a roof over their heads and feed themselves adequately.
The money they receive from the government not only makes it feasible for them to subsist, but stimulates the economy as well. If we were to expand our social safety net, it would be a massive economic boon, even if it came at the cost of higher taxes. ... Copied to Clipboard!
