Should Offenders for possession be pardoned?

Illinois now has legal cannabis and several other states do as well. I think anyone charged with possession should be pardoned.

While I agree, the logistics of this would be a nightmare. A judge has already sentenced them so they would need a new trial or at least a means to revisit their previous case. This means more court fees for everybody involved. Time, taxpayer money.

Decriminalization is the best the judicial system can handle, sadly. Retroactivly applying verdicts is completely unrealistic in a practical sense.

Congrats on legalization, btw.

Couldn't they release them and expunge the records? Is that literally impossible? Why?

dont ever cross into another state with it. then it becomes "trafficking", a federal crime that completely ignores state laws...

coincidentally, this holds true if you're buying pot legally from one state and having it mailed to your state where it is also legal.

Don't be discouraged. Yes, moving forward this is an incredible thing, especially for those who are targeted by laws that discriminate against good folks who partake in Marijuana.

I didn't mean to shit on your topic, either. I've been an advocate for a while and I have seen how these sorts of issues were handled in my own state with both medical and recreational weed. I don't want anyone to be disillusioned just because the state is deciding to make money from it.
