It's only down 1% pre-market. Still too close to highs to be worth buying imo

It's kind of ironic that stock jockeys are desperate to keep the market high because they fear "what Democrats will do" when Trump's idiocy wrecked the economy harder than anyone's policies ever could.

Not really. We're doing terribly but the market is still stupid high. Today's drop is very small.

You're assuming a GDP drop will lead to a corresponding stock market fall. But that isn't necessarily the case. The government can simply print more money and increase its debt in order to prop the stock markets up with stimulus payments. They've done that for the past few months of corona, which has kept the stocks high. A massive GDP drop is an obvious result from the pandemic, this is hardly breaking news for stockbrokers.

The workers will pay for it in the long term with higher taxes and reduced social spending.

You all have to remember the stock market isn't based on what companies are actually worth. It's based on what investors think they're worth. Which is why you have a company like Hertz still hanging on.

The GDP drop is coming from the 20 million lost jobs. The businesses fired those people in order to remain profitable for investors. Short answer is don't panic sell anything.

There's more to it than just "what I think they're worth" companies that make more money pay higher dividends. The more dividends I can get from a stock the more the stock is worth.

Now on the surface it sounds like you're paying $150 to make $1 but you're doing that and also selling it for $200 later. It's essentially free money for investing in a profitable company. The drawback is you don't have access to that money until you sell your investments.

Amazon has never paid dividends yet theyre the most valuable company. IIRC Microsoft didnt for a long time either. Investors are okay with that because they think the company will produce a better return on that money than they would otherwise get.

Everyone already knew the GDP was going to get crushed in Q2 AKA April/May/June, so this news didn't have any effect on the market when it is almost August.

Apple and Amazon just totally demolished earnings, market is going to be up big tomorrow.
