Went swimming last night and got water in my ear. I tried shaking and cupping and all that stuff to get it out, and nothing happened, so I went to bed assuming itd get out in the morning.

Wake up, still no hearing at all, so I go to UrgentCare to get my ears flushed and remove all the wax. They remove a fuckton of wax, but I still cant hear shit. They prescribed some ear drops for a mild ear infection, but Im skeptical that a mild infection that would have just started yesterday would already be causing me to be unable to hear.

what do, ce? im a career musician so im very worried this is something serious and/or irreversible

Best I could find. Don't stress too hard, probably not permanent.

Your brain will fill in the rest anyways, but yeah, as a musician I sympathize for what youre going through.. if youre a career musician though, youll be golden, trust what youve learned using your ears so far and your abilities on the instrument.

My right ear is wonky, sometimes it mutes out - not sure why

Thanks for that, that gives me a hopeful explanation. Theres no pain at all, which is whats so weird about it

Sounds like otitis externa, especially if the ear canal is swollen/hurts.

Obviously can't tell by history alone, but decreased hearing after swimming that lasts more than a day is classic for it.

Beethoven was deaf, though he went deaf well into his career, so he already was a very talented composer/instrumentalist and could hear in his head what things would sound like without hearing them actually.

Is that good? Bad? There really is no pain, save for some light aches when I put the eardrops in and a pressure-y feeling. Will the eardrops he prescribed me take care of that?

this literally just happened to me. I was pissed. It was very frustrating. Went to the doc and he prescribed some drops. I had to use 3 times a day 4 drops in each ear. Basically had to lay on side for 30 to 45 min each time for them to settle in. I lost even more hearing and got frustrated but I had faith. I had to go back to the doctor in 3 or 4 days and he flushed them out and I was good as new. It must have been really bad because I could hear better than ever and I was sensitive to the sounds probably because my brain wasn't used to processing volume or noise like that. It worked tho

I had almost the same thing happen. It was from my ears popping on an airplane. Flushed out all the wax at the doctor's office but remained deaf for about a week and was given medication for an ear infection. Then I just woke up one morning and it was fine.
