Why should employed people who work hard for their money pay for these (mostly) lazy assholes who could get a job to just sit at home and do nothing though?

It's easy to get unemployed though. You just do the barest minimum of a job and be snide/shitty to your bosses until they fire you/lay you off. Boom, unemployment.

Or just start doing your job really badly and intentionally forgetting things until they fire you than you can claim you weren't trained properly.

Probably because you should care about where you will be for more than 3 months in the future.

I don't think a couple of months living at a similar or slightly better salary without working is worth potentially being homeless in 6. Don't think many people are willing to take that type of gamble.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unemployment is unlimited in that you can essentially receive unemployment for the rest of your life.

Only if they were stupid enough to ignore withholding during their application.

But even then, even with the highest UI, ain't nobody made $20k in 3 months.

There are yearly caps to benefits, and in most states you have to work for the employer for more than two quarters before you qualify. Some are less than that but since the benefits are based on your quarterly income you have to have actually worked to qualify for benefits (and the less money you make the less benefit you can actually qualify for).

Now yes, the federal stimulus addition to unemployment has made it very attractive for people - that was the point of it. The government was intentionally trying to reduce the incentive of non-essential workers from trying to return to work before it was safe. But those payments are about to stop entirely, or at the very least be greatly reduced.

So people can't claim unemplyment again after their payment expires and must work for at least 2 quarters straight before they can replenish?

Pretty much. Like I said some states have looser requirements, I think in Pennsylvania its 18 weeks? But the benefit you qualify for is based on your earnings from the past several quarters so if you werent working you wont have enough earnings to qualify for benefits.

Also normally can only qualify for 26 weeks of unemployment benefits per year anyways, at most, depending on which state you live in. Thats been extended most places this year due to Covid but its still limited, and again, the federal stimulus is about to lessen considerably, so the amount people are going to be making is going to be substantially less.

Its not.

Im actually extremely salty that Ive been busting my ass on the front lines as an essential worker, working six days a week, while people on unemployment are making more than I am.

Even with the extra $2 an hour, its not enough for me to be like wow, this country really appreciates people like me during this time of crisis.

I think because Ive finally been on vacation this week and just relaxing that it really hit me how much Id love to not be at work and yet still getting the same (or higher) amount of money. I hope any of you who didnt have to work during this but your pay was at least the same appreciate the fuck out of it.

Because there is no guarantee once the pandemic is over that you will have a stable source of income once the benefits go back to normal. And that will be the reality for a majority of the people who lost their jobs who don't have a degree or are specialized in a stable industry.

Maybe, but if anything they'd have shit tons of time by then plus savings to plan and work towards their next move and pay off their debt. And if not and they literally spent all of their time unemployed doing fuck all.....I have no sympathy for them.

The only way for them to be making 20k in 3 months is if they were making good money before. In which case they will still be earning less than they were employed. And that would be why. Not to mention unemployment requires you to look for work.

If you choose to exploit the current benefits you run the risk of not being able to find a job when they run out and they aren't enough to cover your bills again

Federal unemployment ended and the parties are bitching over which corporations need to be benefited over actual people.

If people bitched about corporate abuse as much as they got triggered by people getting actual help, the parties might have to actually help people instead of corporations
