12-15 i worked on a dairy farm for like $3.50 an hour cash under the table. I also picked strawberries and blueberries, paid by weight, averaged about $5 an hour. I dont think taxes were taken.

16 I worked at a gun range sitting in a concrete bunker loading clay pigeons into a trap machine. Made $5.15 an hour there.

I worked at the flea market since I was like 8 years old selling toys, I would handle money, give change, provide a bag for the item sold, very basic stuff.

My first "real job" was at Wendy's at 16, it was really stressful, after a week the manager asked me "so I'm going to see you next week right?" and I had no idea I could just not show up anymore back then, when I realized I could just leave I told her flat out "nope" and she got mad. If she hadn't asked me I would've kept showing up.

But yeah, after working fast food for a week I realized why these folks deserve more money, they deal with some serious bullcrap.

Worked the carnival games at Circus Circus in Reno. It was during the mornings, Monday to Friday, but I picked up a couple weekends. They would penalize you if your game didn't make a certain amount each shift, which sucked because during the daytime it was dead and some games people just wouldn't play. Explains the high turnover.

I worked in the snack bar at the ice rink when I was 14-16. I didn't get paid but the money I would have made at minimum wage was taken tax free off of my bill to play hockey, so it was probably hella illegal. It was mostly boring because the place as open even during practices and stuff so nobody came. My only enduring memory is trying to fit a deformed lid onto the top of a styrofoam cup of coffee and pushing too hard to get it to stick, breaking the cup and spraying hot coffee all over some angry dad's pants.

RIP Hollywood Video
Good riddance! :)

I managed the video game department there toward the end of the stint. At that time, they implemented a bonus which was based on the inventory loss level specifically for games.

I managed the department to the point where we lost only a handful of carts and discs. The first bonus payout should have been way higher than it was, but they moved the goal posts after publishing their bonus policy to purposely cut the bonus back a couple thousand. So, that wasnt cool.

I guess game thievery was just normal and accepted across the stores. They sent me to another location to try to clean everything up, but it was such a mess and so much stuff was just gone, there wasnt really anything I could do for them.
