You put the game into your fun machine, then played it. Had fun, then got on with your life.

Now you boot up your PC/Console, wait for it to load, it loads, have to update it, then go to the gaming section, load the game, takes 2 minutes to load like it's a commadore game, then the game needs to install, game installs but then it needs to update.

Then you load the game but it's only 1 of the 5 different editions of the game so content is missing, then it asks if you want DLC and brings up the shop menu for buying in game items/currency.

Then the game starts. 2 hour cutscene/tutorials before you get to just go ham and push buttons. Then you get game over for not following the mission as the game intended.

7 hours of content are stretched over 40. Also needlessly depressing with swearing and death and blood and misery because this isn't fun it's "art" and art apparently can't be fun.

I think you could complete every 90s sonic game in the time it takes to turn on a PS4, update it, install/load Days Gone.

And have a much better time doing it.

Remember Crash Bandicoot? And Spyro? And Mario? And Goldeneye?

Plenty of games are still like the old ones you miss so much. Get out of the AAA bloatpile and hope on the indie train.

Panzer Paladin is fucking sweet.

Yeah it sounds like you would enjoy gaming on the PC TC. You could browse/work/watch a video and then let the client update the game in the background.

Remember when gamers actually had fun instead of nitpicking every single thing and crying about a game before it even launched or they even touched it?

That's the thing though, when I want to play a game I want to play the game. Not watch Netflix for 4 hours while it updates and installs.

And in many respects console games are better. My Genesis games? They still work on my Genesis. My PS1 games? They still work on my PS2. I don't need an internet connection or updates or to install them or buy extra ammo or lives or levels with real money.

Neverwinter Nights doesn't work anymore because of some bullshit Windows update. I spent hours trying to get it fixed/ReInstalling and nothing.

Empire Earth works but it took me over an hour to get it working after modern PCs decided it doesn't work anymore.

Vampire The Masqurade "works" but all of the mods don't because now it forces you to install a patched version which fucks up every single mod created before the patch, which is 99% of them.

Fallout New Vegas "works" but it crashes all the time.

And modern games made since those days all suffer from all the things I listed in the OP.

Games aren't fun anymore, they feel like a part time job. A game, an amusement should not require maintenance or hours of waiting around to get working.

Monopoly doesn't close the board by itself for 5 hours when you want to play it to update. Then when you play it you find out the cards are all blank now unless you pay an extra $6 and instead of properties you buy child corpses in front of their crying parents or something.

Don't you see what I'm saying? Times have changed and the notion of quantity has won out over quality and the notion of sucking you dry has won out over having fun.

My last system was a ps2 and I didn't get another newer one until I got a free xbox 360 S from gamestop on black friday 2018

It asked me for a system update when I connected to wifi so I updated it, when I went to play minecraft it asked me to update the game. The one game I really wanted(scott pilgrim vs the world) is gone because things like this happen. I have the ultimate(greatest hits) version of forza 3, normally it would have some free DLC cars but ms took down the servers so now I'm stuck with whatever is on the content install disc

So this current gen it's not worth it that much to get a cheap old system and cheap games

It's 2020 and SSDs are a thing

Other than the random game or game client updates like once a month that take a few minutes to download, you can go from having your computer sitting there turned off to being in a game menu in a minute. I would guess that my fastest time doing this was less than 40 seconds with the first 10 being the bios loading and booting up the OS. Takes way longer to do something like load Animal Crossing on my Switch while it's already powered on

So if console gaming is a problem....then stop console gaming?
