Having recently just played SA2 for the first time, I can't tell which is the worse game.

How SA ever managed to earn a sequel is a mystery, and the fact that they improved upon nothing is even more mysterious.

I had a n64 and felt that OoT and Mario 64 were the pinnacle of jaw dropping, then I saw sonic adventure in the DC at a Costco and I couldnt believe my eyes.

You want some recommendations for actually bad games?

I love these games, but I will never be able to defend their gameplay. I still listen to the SA1 OST pretty regularly, since it's on Spotify.

But honestly, if they just focused on the Sonic (and to a lesser extent SA1 Tails) gameplay, they games would have been fine. The Knuckles/Rouge, E102/Eggman/SA2 Tails, Amy, and Lord help us all, Big the Cat gameplay was just not good.

I replayed SA1 not too long ago. It's not a terrible game by any means, but it'd definitely wonky.

I have got to be the only person who actually liked the hunting stages. Knuckles and Rouges stages are usually my favorite (Except for a few) I thought the mech stages were the worst.

SA2 is still a great game imo. 1 has not aged great tho

SA1 has aged horribly. SA2 hasn't aged as badly and is still good, though its flaws like the horrendous camera work stand out a lot more.

One thing I hated the most was the camera/control relationship.

Movement is done entirely with respect to the camera. This means that if you're holding a direction, and the camera changes orientation, you'll now be moving relative to the new camera angle immediately. This caused me to fall, take hits, or stop all of my movement to reorient myself/the camera multiple times throughout the games.

Furthermore, if you try and rotate the camera manually for the purposes of exploration or orienting yourself, it will immediately snap to the direction the game wants you to go in once you start moving. So if I 180 the camera and push forward, it'll 180 back and I will be going backwards relative to my intent. There's no setting to change this.

Also, and I know this is a spicy take, the Chao Garden is mostly boring. Like I enjoyed it when I was a kid and had considerably more tolerance for boring bullshit, but most of it is just waiting around or running the same Eggman/Tails level over and over again.

Sonic Adventure 1 with it's hub world and including characters like Big the Cat is way, way more dated than SA2. SA2 is actually still a pretty fun game. Nostalgia helps too lol.

I replayed Sonic Adventure 1 about 2-3 years ago and it still slaps. It's my favorite in the series (2D included).

SA2 has a lot more of a commitment to gimmicks that don't work very well. The Knuckles/Rouge levels can be boring and take too long--and then there's the timed one in the vault with Rouge, which is where I stopped my second playthrough like 15 years ago. I wanted to replay it after SA1 in the same time frame, saw I had an in-progress run, and played that level...and immediately quit again lol

It's been a while but saying they're among the worst games ever feels harsh. Very unpolished though. Some stuff that's fun and some stuff that's more tedius. I'll give credit to the first one for being ambitious for it's time, but I'm not sure how I'd feel replaying them how much my opinion would worsen.

Chao Garden is the only worthwhile part of those games to revisit.

A1 has a better knuckles radar, and some pretty good Sonic/Tails levels, but otherwise it's heavily flawed. I really like A2 tho, aside from the trash radar and turning in mech levele

The only characters I didn't love playing as in SA1 were Amy and Big. Amy felt like watered-down Sonic/Tails while Big felt...weird. His part is short and easy, but still weird lol

Knuckles and Rogue stages are fine as long as you dont give a shit about rank. (And you shouldnt, because no matter what you tell yourself you will never unlock green hill zone) Just use all three hints.

I have heavy nostalgia for the Adventure games, particularly SA2. So while I can understand they aged terribly...I still like them and play them occasionally. The OST was godlike for both. I'll admit that for SA2 I only really look forward to playing the speed stages though.

I never finished SA2 because the rail levels were too hard and my Dreamcast's controller ports die on me.

Only time a console has ever died on me and I'm still upset about it.

I keep saying they should bring them back. Chao are the only reason people liked SA2. But sonic fans always get angry when you suggest it.

I only ever played the second one, and City Escape was super fun and exciting... At least until you finish up the part with the "snowboard" thing. Sonic controls like shit and the level design suuuuucks

So basically the game was fun for about 45 seconds.
