Not at all. As I said, I love Funkadelic (got to see George Clinton play Maggot Brain live once!!), King Crimson, Pink Floyd, a lot of math rock and mathcore, and even some classical music, particularly for their virtuosity (as well as other elements). I like a lot of metal for its combination of virtuosity, production, and aesthetics. I can recognize the virtuosity of someone like Yngwie Malmsteen while still finding his music insufferable. I think this all is largely irrelevant to your initial point though. You can recognize virtuosity in music while finding "artistic merit" in other works as well.

Is that rock performed by math teachers?

okay, way to miss the point.

what Im saying is that complexion/simplicity is subjective when it comes to music and isnt inherently good or bad
That's why I keep bringing up points to agree with that, Blink 182 is simple but I love them, AC/DC is simple but I love them, Weezer is simple but I love them, there isn't anything wrong with liking simple artists, like 95% of artists of all genres (outside of classical/orchestral) aren't that complex, including most of what I listen to

We should judge personal preference on a different scale from proficiency but a lot of people just like to *insert favorite artist* is the greatest

It's like if your favorite player was CP3 so you said he was the greatest

Why should everyone go by your personal metrics in defining what they view as great? One person can think Taylor Swift is the greatest, another can think Beethoven is the greatest. Neither is wrong, it's just that those two people find greatness in different things. Technical proficiency in musicianship isn't the only thing that can qualify a musician as great.

good point.

why do people saying Led Zeppelin is the greatest when Mozart and Beethoven were way more technically skilled? its like they know nothing about music! @Muscles

I have repeatedly said that classical is the best most skilled genre, but I guess you got me

Led Zeppelin is still in the elite tier, they were all virtuosos

They were definitely very competent players but I don't know if I'd call them virtuosos. There were plenty of dudes around then that could play circles around Bonham and especially page

I mean... pretty much any of the jazz fusion/prog guitarists around the late 60s and early 70s (except for maybe lifeson who was pretty overrated). They were all extremely skilled and could shred for days

Page is also known for being sloppy

being sloppy
thats kind of a blues guitarist thing though. its more about the feel than hitting every not perfectly every time. Most of their solos are improv in pentatonic scales and that kinda lends itself to sounding sloppy

Hendrix is the best, the rest are at about equal skill level. None of them could play circles around page.

I've never really listened to Taylor Swift, but since you deem this an improvement over her previous albums I'll check out some songs - maybe the ones Clench mentioned on the first page.

I listened to about half of it so far, it's decent but I'm not digging it that much.
Tbh I got into it solely b/c of Aaron Dessner's involvement, since I'm a fan of The National, and he sure knows how to produce sad songs.

Well instead of the flashy pop sound I was expecting, these songs had a softer, down-to-earth sound that reminded me more of Paula Cole.

They're not songs I'd listen to regularly but they're not bad. Exile is my favorite of the songs.

Whether you like her music or not (and no one is saying you have to), she's a more skilled musician and singer than pretty much anyone posting on PotD at the moment.

Anyone is free to judge a celebrity despite said celebrity been better then said person at what they do because said celebrity has not only put themselves in the public eye but they try and sell you on what they decided to do with their life. I don't listen to Taylor Swift and won't bother with this album but if some folk think she's shit then that's perfectly fine. Just as it's fine for you to complain about people who are better than you at what they do.
