I've been looking for something colorful and fun to play with some grindy/rpg mechanics.

Since switches are sold out everywhere, that leaves PS4. Anyone play DQ builders 2, and if so what is your opinion on it?

Otherwise it looks like I will finally start monster hunter world iceborne or xcom 2, which only partway fit the bill.

and have beaten all 10 mainline games (X is online and no western release) plus 5 spinoffs

Yeah, reading reviews said 2 was better, was looking as they are both on sale.

Plus it has an 86 metacritic score, which ain't half bad.

2 is a whole lot better. Its perfectly acceptable to skip 1 altogether.

Actually I've played all the games you mentioned in the first post. All of them are fantastic, but if youre looking for colorful and lighthearted, go with DQB2.

One time I was up until midnight trying to get a roof to look just right. If you enjoy that kind of creative experience, you will get a lot of mileage out of it.

It's a great game. Beat it on Switch and then bought it again on Steam.

If you could co-op the main campaign it would easily be in my top 3 of games released in the 2010s. My only real complaint is that unless you just absolutely love building random stuff, the postgame is kinda boring since the NPCs go from really interesting characters to mindless robots with obvious flaws in their AI. One example would be me filling a chest in a kitchen with an assload of ingredients, but if nobody starts cooking the NPCs will all stand around and complain about starving.
