You know we actually used to like Boris Johnson? People refuse to admit this now, but I remember.

Before he was considered a serious politician, everyone enjoyed the oddball buffoon character who seemed to callback to a funny and twee kind of britishness. Unkempt, well spoken and bumbly. When we thought he was harmless he was a lot of fun. Just that eccentric backbencher who said odd things in early 2000s before every single piece of news media was dominated by identity politics.

Every bit as privileged as Trump, but in the British manner. No, he wasn't born to a billionaire real estate dynasty, but he was born to a specific trajectory of elite that British people by and large despise but can't really do anything about. If you went to Eton and then to Oxford it's basically impossible to fail. Your boarding school fraternity will ensure you can't.

Anyway, wasn't Trump a bit like this? Back in the 2000s I seem to remember he was revered as some kind of shrewd businessman (lol), that's what the apprentice was about wasn't it?
