...cannot stop playing it. I already put in 40 hours and look forward to playing it when I'm away from my Switch. Here's a little backstory into why I hated it at first. I had just purchased a Switch last year mostly because Fire Emblem was coming out. Since everyone raved about BOTW, I figured I couldn't go wrong with also picking it up. But I hadn't played any games in over a few years and before that, any that I did play were probably RPGS on the 3DS. I couldn't get used to moving the camera in BOTW so I was terrified of doing anything. It also drove me nuts how much freedom there was because I didn't know what to do and felt extremely overwhelmed. I'm used to RPGS that have a more linear storyline.

Funny enough, it was probably playing 400+ hours of Fire Emblem and Xenoblade Chronicles DE in the last year that probably got me to become a pro at moving the camera angle so when I came back to BOTW, it felt like second nature. And now I actually love the freedom of exploring whatever I want. I keep getting distracted from exploring new parts of the continent and discovering new Sheikah towers and shrines.

Storywise, I'm currently at Zora's domain getting shock arrows so that I can fight one of the Divine Beasts. But I can't help going northward to Akkala plains and even further up to discover new places and get new weapons. Anyway, I just love this game so much and wanted to share my experience. Curious if anyone experienced something similar. I have heard that while most love BOTW, there's a small minority that hates it. I feel like I've now been in both camps haha.

I was the same way with RDR2

Hated it when I tried it the first time but loved it when I tried it again this year.

It was the first time playing a game in a loong time that made me feel so excited to go home and play it

Like, I love video games, but I forgot that feeling of "oh gosh I can't wait till it's 3:30 and I'm done with work and I can drive home to play zelda"

I was hesitant because most open world gameplay seems to be so devoid of soul. But the game really maintained a Zelda feel for me.

I've started to play Horizon now, having gone through all of the main story elements of BOTW. I'm enjoying it, has an engaging enough storyline so far. Landscapes are overall less interesting though.

Seriously, it's one of the best feelings. This game really is something else. The amt of detail that they put into the world and continent is incredible. For instance, the weapon weights and speeds completely make sense. The lower damage output of spears but high speed to make up for it helps when I'm getting crushed by giant moblins with clubs that can kill me with one hit. I equip the spear and suddenly I'm hitting them so many times that they can barely get up, whereas I get my ass whooped when I try using a broadsword or axe.

I also love hunting animals in this game for raw prime and gourmet meat. Oh and did I mention the mining?

The only small gripe that I have is spending so much time deciding which weapons to leave behind because of my limited inventory space but even then, I appreciate how the game is trying to get me to use everything in my inventory otherwise I'd end up saving my weapons and never using them like I tend to do with RPGS that have unlimited storage.

Yup! It's actually a great feeling to rediscover something that I misunderstood the first time. Glad you had something like that too.
