No, it lets you heal yourself up to 19998, I think.

Should I be level 99 (I assume that's the cap) before doing the final dungeon? I saved before doing the quest with Alphas and the Impresario, so I'm just about ready to get to it next time I play.

That'd be pretty overleveled. IIRC I beat the final boss in the low 70s or 80s.

yeah 99 is way too much grinding. you still want it to be challenging. 70 is a good level to attempt it at.

Okay I just checked my team comp from when I beat the final boss. Everyone was level 62 except Therion, who was my main character and was level 63, and Ophelia, who I guess just happened to fall behind in training and was 61. So yeah 99 is definitely too much.

I am going for defensive setups, I tried to get my Elemental Defenses over 900, or as high as possible on anyone who could heal.

I started running out of decent gear and had to start using mid-tier gear on a few areas.

I'm worried about SP issues on Therion, even with his ability to get it back. I was also thinking of a Last Stand possibility with Olberic, hence the reason for forgoing Saving Grace and putting Fortitude on instead.

Lol, apparently I spent almost 3 hours on that party setting up, not 2, according to my last saves.

Anywho, next time I log in to play, I'm all in on the Ruins of Hornburg.

Don't read this until you play the dungeon

mostly because I think you're probably expecting an actual "dungeon" and not a boss rush

Ah... Yeah, maybe. It was kind of weird when nothing attacked me in Hornburg.

But... Galdera defeated.

The boss rush was a joke. Their power level vs. what came after with Galdera wasn't even remotely similar in difficulty.

I did like the lore bits left behind, and I think the most fascinating of which was that Redeye was Graham Crossford.

Galdera was a bit much. I did do it in one shot without wiping, but from start to finish, whole Gate of Finis took me about 2 1/2 hours, and I'm pretty sure 90 minutes of that was on Galdera.

Not sure what the benefit of taking the Warmaster for part two was. I'm not entirely sure if that role made it easier or not, but part 1 definitely took the longest. I might have made things more difficult with my party formations, I'm not sure.

As far as the lores go, oddly enough, some of the heroes aren't really that tied to the story other than by circumstantial involvement. Alfyn, H'aanit, and Tressa seemed to be more in the right place at the right time and not so much intertwined with the destiny of Lyblac.

Ophilia and Therion, and maaaaaybe Olberic, probably have the strongest connection for being "main protagonist" in so far as the culmination of all stories being linked and their involvement with the evils of Osterra. Cyrus and Primrose are collateral involvement, neither primarily indebted to the story's branching, nor circumstantially involved.

As a result, I feel good that my pick for main character had one of the better stories, was a good candidate for main hero and bringing people together, and had one of the deeper ties to the background lore.

So that's it then... 106 hours later, I have completed the story of Octopath Traveler.

I'm sure there might be some side stories, treasures, or even a dungeon I may have missed, but I feel good about my completion.

Overall, this was a pretty solid game. I wouldn't put it way up there with some of the better story telling or game play from Square Enix. It's hard to top things like FF6, FFT, and what not, but I was vested enough to enjoy the game and it's lore. I read everything and didn't skip through even the side story events, so that's a pretty good credit to this game.

Might be some time before I play it again though, or what I would even do to keep it interesting on a repeat playthrough.

If you guys have anything you want to ask or add about my impression of the game, go for it.

Good job

I made part 1 long for myself too, due to me keeping the better jobs for part 2
Still did it at once, but there were several close calls (especially when it started sweeping away all my buffs at once)
I was myself mostly disappointed that the boss didnt look too visually interesting (reminded me too much of NeoExDeath). But the music was great at least.

Alfyn, H'aanit, and Tressa seemed to be more in the right place at the right time and not so much intertwined with the destiny of Lyblac.

H'aanit and Alfyn mostly connect to the Lyblac story through Graham Crossford/RedEye I suppose. Tressa even less so because of her having Grahams diary.

If you stack buffs you can use Winnehild's Battle Cry to completely demolish part 2.

My strategy for the second phase was warrior Cyrus. He does crazy damage with the Runelord buffs

On the subject of the Runelord, I was a bit disappointed that the elemental buffs didn't go off on every auto attack hit. First time I found out, I used a 4x Boost on a normal attack, and then realized that first off there is no additional elemental hit after each attack, but second off the elemental damage doesn't get boosted either.

On the flip side, Therion easily benefited the most from the Runelord buffs since he was my Sorcerer. Since he had Elemental Aid on, on the Sorcerer spells cost 72 SP, so I really just used them for breaking, and once he was buffed by the Runelord, I was spamming SP and HP Thief for damage instead. The spell damage could only, at best, match the damage of a elemental infused SP Thief if it was fully boosted.

Runelord-boosted Warrior Cyrus was doing 5 digit damage to all parts of second phase Galdera just by using level slash. It was great

Yeah. Well, one I first fought this boss I was Level 64 and I struggled mightily. It took me two tries to beat the first phase, and by the time I got to the second phase I was destroyed/tired/exhausted. I only ended up winning after I moved my warmaster to Team 2 and basically killed it in two-three turns.

I ended up really liking the lore connections and Galdera itself as a boss. One of the most exhilirating bosses in recent memory.

Some of my characters were downright worthless in the final fight too.

Olberic was pretty much relegated to Rehabilitate and Plum duty since he wasn't adding much else through his abilities.

Similarly, Primrose and Alfyn in party two felt like they were just doing busy work while Cyrus an H'aanit did the bulk of the clear.
