Regardless of whether they extend it or not you'd think they would have the decency to give people some advance warning either way

The date was stated when they introduced it in the first bill. Everyone has known for months that it expired at the end of July

I understand that, I'm saying you would think they'd have the decency to come to an agreement good or bad before then so people could at least start to attempt to budget.

There's plenty of people on CE who have no idea it's ending.

If the fact that you lack long term employment isn't enough incentive to budget your resources then I don't know what is.

The plan for the Republicans was to wait till the last minute and see if the economy recovered.

It didn't, and now they're gonna take a few weeks to work things out. I read an article saying that in the meanwhile as they get their act together, Congress should at least extend it till they confirm something in 2-3 weeks.

Tens of millions of Americans didn't budget properly before the pandemic, I doubt anything has changed

I agree, they should at least extend it until they come to an agreement

People on salary getting hosed even worse. I know folks working 80 hours per week after watching their hourly co-workers get laid off.

Yeah, but they definitely can't afford the extra $600.
If you thought things were bad now, well, we've not seen anything yet. Lots of people out of work are suddenly going to be unable to pay their bills(if they were able to before) and the economy is still contracting.

Extending how long you can collect the standard amount, not extending the additional $600 bonus. I think that's where most people are confused.

There's a standard amount you receive, say it's $285 a week. On top of that, the $600 bonus they receive $885 a week. When the bonus expires, they still collect that $285 a week, but that's all. The states extending are the states that have a time limit on how long you can collect, typically 6 months. Those states are likely extending that timeframe.

That extension has nothing to do with the $600 bonus.

The $600 is funded federally. The states only pay out their regular amounts.

But yeah, August is gonna be a shitfest.

Yeah, moratoriums on evictions are ending next month, we're probably going to see a homelessness (and crime as a result) spike like we've never seen. Unless the GOP decides to come to the table and work something out.

This is the last week because you certify the previous week. So next week's payment is the last.

Also Mitch laughed at the notion that they can settle something by even next Friday.
