Current Events > So...I am probably having emergency surgery in the morning

For the past month, I've been having pain, fever, and the inability to have an okay life pretty much.

I'm a stage IV colon cancer patient, and for the past few years I've been able to live a relatively okay life. Chemo was the worst thing. Fast forward to a couple months ago, and I have found out through repeat hospitalizations that my colon has abscessed and a pocket of bacterial pus has leaked out and is growing. At the same time, my ureters for passing urine well has become blocked and it really hurts to piss lately.

So, in the next several hours they may likely do emergency surgery to drain the growing pus and place stents in my ureters. I'm honestly looking forward to it, but I'm pretty scared, too. I dunno what's going to happen, and...you know...I dunno.

I don't want sound melodramatic or whatever. I'm just worried.

It's natural to be worried, "Emergency" surgery sounds especially scary.

Modern medicine is phenomenal, and you are going to be just fine. We'll keep you in our thoughts and shitposting, and we'll see you back when you feel better

Still waiting on the surgery. It's no longer "emergency," and there are five teams working on my case about what to do. At least three are adamant that radiology do the drain, while radiology is insisting that the procedure would do more harm than good.

Meanwhile, surgical oncology is still pushing for a colostomy bag, even though that doesn't make a whole lot of medical sense to me. How is diverting my colon going to stop the pocket of pus? And he said it probably wouldn't Greaaaat, thanks doc.

Anyways, they stopped torturing me and let me eat, finally, after a day and a half of NPO, so that was lovely. You don't know just how good water tastes after being deprived of it. NPO again in the case the urology team finally decides to put the stents in. Who knows. The teams don't know, they're butting heads over what to do with the drain while I sit pretty in my hospital gown and play my New 2DS, occasionally pressing the APC so I can get some pain relief.
