How in the hell did they get away with airing this on network TV?

This show wildly careens from being really good to completely ridiculous. Not sure how I feel about it tbh.

It's my favorite American TV series.

and yeah, I don't understand how broadcast rules work...

it's an incredible piece of work really, never seen anything like it before or since

season two finale is particularly jaw-dropping, people talk about game of thrones' willingness to kill off characters but i've never seen any series show their protagonists getting so unambiguously destroyed like hannibal did

a tiny bit too ridiculous (and periodically straight up revolting) to sit among my absolute favourite shows, but i am very happy that it exists

hannibal didn't wind up killing a single main character in the S2 finale tho

i thought the show got a bit too big for its britches pretty often, but i loved the ambition. and mads mikkelsen was just incredibly enjoyable

I don't get this, since none of them were actually dead (other than the one we thought was dead beforehand. I love S2 of Hannibal, and would say the finale is a below average episode for S2.

At the time of watching, I thought the S2 finale was excellent. But yes, it was weakened when S3 came around and everyone lived, including Bloom, who was then thrust into a truly ridiculous subplot involving becoming Mason's therapist.

I still want to know how they were able to show a man cutting off his own cheeks to feed to dogs before eating his own nose on primetime network television.

Pros:
Mads is superb. Totally nailed the balance between humor and horror.

Scott Thompson in this is so great. One second you're looking at some truly horrific gore, the next you've got one of the kids in the hall making cracks about body parts.

Frederick Chilton consistently having the most horrible and gruesome acts done to him is kind of a running gag and it works.

The cinematography is generally outstanding.

Cons:
Some of this is just way too over the top. Especially in season one, where the show is kind of "figuring itself out." The musician killer and tower of body episodes in particular are just kind of whatever.

Fishburne is a professional and I have no problems with his performance, and I know his character is fulfilling an archetype, but how dumb can you be, seriously?

The first half of season 3 is probably my least favorite section of the show. Again, probably because it feels super over the top insane.

Shame that they were never able to secure the rights to Silence of the Lambs or Clarice Starling
