I have done what is I believe most of the first chapter.

I think the story is really interesting so far, it's probably the best opening for a Paper Mario game (second IMO would be either SPM or PM64), surprisingly spooky atmosphere and some good cutscenes. We'll see how the rest of the story goes but it's the best setup in a good while. Olivia is a cool character, the writing is great.

The exploration is good too, it seems like there's a lot of stuff to find and some things that you can't access right away. For the out of battle gameplay it's mostly what you would expect with some puzzles, then some actiony bits that I quite like. I do have a couple of minor gripes. This is shared with I believe every Paper Mario game, but you can't skip text or increase text speed. Additionally, I wish it would just fill in the confetti holes automatically (though these are largely optional).

So yeah, good first couple of hours with it. If it keeps it up it will definitely be one of the better ones.

the game doesn't really have chapters, but each Streamer Area is basically a chapter equivalent

Started playing. Been exploring Toad Town and working on map completion.

Gotta be honest I'm having a blast so far. It's still early but it has the potential to pass SPM, which I enjoy far more than most.

I'm really loving this game, but maaan the moratorium on original character designs is really a bummer.

biggish midgame spoilers. don't read until you're most of the way done with the purple streamer area
at one point you meet the "origami craftsman", the character capable of giving life to origami, who created Olly and Oliva and.... he's just a normal toad. with an apron

the haters are gonna have a field day with this one

Played like an hour last night. Really enjoying it so far; I'm feeling optimistic about the rest of the game!

Just beat the first boss. It was actually a lot of fun! I have some high expectations for some of the later bosses

I have now finished the Deadly Premonition 2 and have started the Paper Marios

I do have one small issue with the game so far: the balancing with the battles is pretty screwy. As long as you can one shot enemies, doing the rearrangement correctly will let you get through a battle taking zero damage, but as soon as you can't you take a ton of damage since there are so many enemies. There's not really a middle ground.

The weapons help alleviate this, plus mushrooms, hearts and benches are pretty plentiful so even if you take a lot of damage it's not too hard to get the health back.

Yeah I did realize that the iron boots gave me the few extra points of damage to one shot things again, but some of the enemies can wipe you pretty quickly if you're sloppy (like four spinies do 20 damage even if you block).

The fact that big groups of enemies are a threat if you mess up the puzzle is a good thing imho.

I've begun playing. I'm up to the point where the museum and shop opened in Toad Town so not very far yet. It's been enjoyable so far. Hoping it gets a bit more challenging.

Also I'm assuming I have not been able to collect everything yet.

I got to the Blue area and this game is great. Just keeps getting better and it appears to be a lot longer than I thought it would be.

Yellow streamer area done with 100% of the collectibles thanks to having all the accessories that alert you to them. Gonna have to go back through the first 2 areas again and get what I can before moving on to the purple streamer area.

I recommend using the Toad Radar there's quite a few sneaky ones there

also if you're by chance looking at the trophy list in the musee and are wanting to catch the legendary cheep cheep and legendary blooper you can't actually do it until the purple streamer area fishing spot
