So... uhm....

Assuming this isn't just us watching an MMO take place (since the robots are gathering oxyone from "playing the game" the same as they are in the "game" itself)...

What I am thinking is that these creatures and the Gadoll's both landed on Earth at the same time. The robots in their ship which is now the Deca-Dence, and Gadoll's on their own.

The main entity programming the robots wipe their memories and make their reality seem like a video game. The robots live deep in the Deca-Dence outside the view of the humans. They control avatars like humans control the bodies in Avatar.

Meanwhile, humans are almost wiped out by the war that came to their planet. Eventually the survivors make their way into the Deca-Dence, and the program chooses to incorporate them, since they can deal with maintenance of the fortress. They are chipped and subtly controlled. Thus why Kaburagi goes around basically "Taking care of bugs". He is taking out humans whose chips are messed.

At least this is what I am thinking so far. Otherwise Natsume's dad finding that medallion on the surface makes no sense.

That second episode was the biggest "what the fuck is going on?" episode of a seasonal anime that I've seen since Revue Starlight, and I'm so hyped to see more. Deca-Dence could end up one of my all-time favorites if they actually pull off this crazy story and don't mess it up later on.

That is my thoughts. I could see this going catastrophically bad, but if they do it right, it will be something special.

It's an original anime too, meaning no manga or light novel readers to artificially inflate expectations or post "theories" that are actually thinly veiled spoilers. We're all going into this blind, meaning the discussions and theories flying around will be really fun.

It feels like we get one of these crazy, ambitious original anime (that get overshadowed by highly anticipated adaptations of popular manga or LN's) like every year now. Princess Principal back in 2017, Revue Starlight and Toji No Miko in 2018, Granbelm last year, now Deca-Dence this year.
