every fiscal year i get a floating holiday

they forgot to put mine in last year (i'm guessing it's because i transferred sections around the time it happened so i was lost in the mix)

so i had to call HR and have them do it

i checked and they gave me 1 Hour

i called back over and they said that was 1 Day even though it displayed as hours...ok whatever

then this year they just automatically put in my floating holiday...and it was indicated as 1 Day

so i call back over there and tell them. they tell me they made a mistake and will fix it

i check today...and they changed the 1 hour to 2 days...but they also added 1 day to the existing 1 day, giving me 2 days there as well (either one would have been correct, but not both)

so now i have 4 days of vacation when i'm supposed to have 2

yeah, i'm not gonna bother calling them back after all that

If you choose to try and use the extra vacation days, just make sure you've thought through a good cover story first.

Here's a few examples:

"I got confused because they kept saying that 1 equals a day, and I thought it meant hour. Then they changed the amount they gave me like 3 more times and so eventually I was just like 'whatever' and decided to let them handle it. I didn't really do the math on it and just kind of took vacation days as the year went on."

Or

"I went over on my vacation days? How did I do that? I swear I only used what it said I have."

Or

"I did the math to make sure it was right. I even wrote it down somewhere. I can see if I can find it. But if what you're telling me is true, I must have made a mistake. Is there any way I can make this up?"

Just make sure you pick one of these and stick with it so that it's an automatic and natural sounding response, instead of stuttering like a guilt ridden fool. Always play the dumb guy. You'll be safe.

If you have any other questions about how to weasel your way around rules, let me know.

You have only 4 das vacation all year? Or are these additional days?

Anyway, are you planning on leaving the job? If so, don't tell them. If you're planning on staying long term then they'll eventually figure it out and take it back from you in a future pay period, but I still wouldn't tell them.

You have no obligation tell them that they're made a mistake.

Additional. It's actually only a fraction of my additional holidays is why its so easy for them to miss, it blends in. In addition to standard vacation and sick leave I have about 5 different types of additional holidays/vacation times
