I was cleaning out my closet to make room for other stuff and my baby niece crawled up to one of my shoeboxes, opened it up and basically ripped the majority of them lol.

For why I used to collect these chick tracts ironically because they were so prevalent in my childhood and had some sentimental value in a messed up way. I grew up in a heavily southern baptist (I'm an atheist now) community and we would always pass out these chick tracts anytime we can (which was dumb because almost everyone in our neighborhood was Christian of some sort). We were told to leave them anywhere where it will catch people's eyes like on a newstands, toilet seat, or even trash cans lids (yes I do see the irony of the last 2 listed). Well my parents live in California with me, but every year we would drive to Texas for a church meet up and I would always stop by this 76 gas station to fill up on gas because there would always be a different chick tract everytime on a toilet seat and each one of them would be hilarious for all the wrong reasons. Ever since then every year I would always go to the same spot every time and pick up a new chick tract and each one would just be as dumb as the last one.

My favorite will always be the DnD one: https://www.chick.com/products/tract?stk=0046

If ya clicked either of the links it would've been self explanatory. Though I will admit I did make the assumption that everyone here knew what it was.

My cousin use to stuff these in my drawers, in my car, everywhere. Everyone in their church would hide them like Easter eggs in non-believers houses and all over town. The idea was that the non-believer would randomly come across it and have a sudden religious experience.

Basically, there's some sane safe Christian stuff in there, but the majority of his works now are just bat shit crazy conspiracy theories. He's so anti-Catholic that he made a tract saying how it was the Catholic Church that not only killed Abe, MLK, and Kennedy... but they also created Nazism (he is almost right, they didn't create it but they did help them to an extent), Communism, and Islam. This guy really is a piece of work.

Yeah, but maybe it was God's way of saying, "Literally clean the shit out of your closet."

It was crazy to think I used to agree with his bat shit crazy stuff when I was a kid. It literally took me when I was in 6th grade to go,"Huh, this doesn't sound right at all."

It becomes a lot less funny when you know the people putting them around town. People who feverishly believe its 100% true. I once went to a tent meeting where the pastor, while on stage, gladly bragged about once taking a gay couple out of one of their meeting and slamming their hands in the car door. The crowd loved it.

You should be absolutely terrified of Chick Tracks.

I cant believe so many people havent heard of Chick Tracts. I didnt hear about them until I was an atheist in my teens but their so prevalent that they even found their way to me and their so goofy that Id expect most Americans to instantly recognize them.

That sucks TC. Theyre always good for a laugh... except when theyre not (Lisa).

I remember reading one at my grandma's house when I was a kid. Had something to do with a construction worker that fell onto a rebar spike.

Same with my old church as well, though I don't see them do it anymore. I just find it funny how they think people in America would get some kind of religious experience from it when Christianity is plastered all over the place here.

Was this pastor from the south? I notice when I attend church that a lot of southern pastors and preachers would always try to sound as masculine and powerful as possible to flex. But yeah, it is kind of scary how people actually believe in the nonsense. Like I said before, I used to heartily believe in the stuff until I started questioning it by my 5th grade year and eventually seeing how stupid a lot of it was by 6th grade. If I didn't question anything, I would probably still be a Southern Baptists till this day.

To be fair, I lived in LA for a good number of years and have yet to find any of these tracts here. Meanwhile, traveling to the rural south I would see these things on literal trashbin and toilet seats. So yeah, after thinking about it I wouldn't be surprised if more people haven't heard from it. I think a lot of people's exposure is probably from the internet for how ridiculous a lot of it is.

But yeah Lisa was all kinds of fucked up. I think the last straw was when I read a tract about a Couple who were doing missionary work ended up in hell because they didn't try to "save" the people they were helping, while the other guy who was a convict because he murdered someone gets sent to heaven because he accepted God and was constantly preaching about him. Like what kind of fucked up person would write this shit?
