(WICS/WCCU) An animal control officer is lucky to be alive after a violent attack Wednesday morning. A Rantoul Police Officer and a Rantoul Police Animal Control Officer responded to the 1400 block of Mather Drive around 8:45 a.m. after a report of vicious American bulldogs. Immediately after exiting his vehicle, the Animal Control Officer was swarmed by the four American bulldogs. Attempts to distract the dogs with the police siren failed. Police say the bulldogs then began to bite the animal control officer on the legs. When the animal control officer went to retreat to the other side of his van, the dogs pinned him against the van and began biting him in the arm. That's when the police officer fired five shots at the dogs, hitting all four dogs. Two of the dogs died at the scene and the others were taken to University of Illinois Emergency Vet Medicine for treatment. The animal control officer sustained several bites to the arm and was taken to Carle for treatment. The incident is under investigation. <cite>greencheek posted [p:941847681] in Police off...
