He made a pretty "wtf" type post in the "what's the worst thing you survived" topic so hopefully he's ok. Something along the lines of "the past year and half has been that thing and it's all gonna be over soon."

Imagine trolling like this. He's known to be depressed and suicidal. He's even made posts in the past trying to be vague as possible about this like "If I said what I wanted to say I wouldn't get my account back by Monday"

How do I come off as trolling? I come off as unknowledgeable about the matter at worst. Which it appears is the case. If anything you're trolling by trying to make me look worse than what the truth is. I'm not bringing up my theory again. There's no one way to approach suicidal people. You gotta actually spend time learning what they need to counteract their negative thoughts. That's why therapists exist.

But is completely ignoring someone suicidal good for them? Sometimes every option has it's cons. I'm sure it's better than the person feeling like no one cares. I don't know what your solution is. You can't force someone to see a professional.

There really should be an automated response when users get suspended for this that gives them resources, instead of just when the fuck ever Allen gets around to looking at the suspension.

iirc when your account is blocked, you get a list of suicide prevention resources, and are offered an appeal form to have your account restored if you're not suicidal. so they at least don't just drop a curtain on you and wall you out

It gives out like suicide prevention websites and advice and you can get your account back if you tell the mods you're okay.

They SHOULD see a professional and sometimes the only way to get that to happen is to cut them off. You're not helping someone in the long term by "talking them off the ledge" every month.

Why do you feel qualified to make this assessment while calling other people's assessments wrong? I get that you believe in yourself more than others, as is healthy, but there's no one way to go about this. You could be doing that monthly until the switch flips in their head for them to go get more in depth help. And not doing that could cause them to not be able to make it another month to come to that realization. I don't get why genuinely attempting to help someone is such a nono for you. Seems to me like the person is personally taking on a responsibility that they don't have to in hopes that they can actually help. While your thing is the person taking no action and leaving it up to the chance that they magically come to the conclusion they need more help than someone online can provide. Leading someone to a conclusion isn't an impossible task. It way more possible than doing nothing and the person randomly clicking with no outside help.

A lot if suicidal people feel like it's them against the world. You not trying to be an ally just confirms that that is the case.

The heck he do?

He and I have not gotten along but I hope everything is okay and anyone in contact with him is encouraged to tell him that he can talk to me about it even if that seems laughable and he has like 100 better options of people to talk to. I know what part I played in our falling out. I haven't much cared what he thinks of me, but they don't just block people for no reason... and I do care if he's been having troubling thoughts that would lead to that user status.

If you can see this... and I don't know what alts you have and I'm probably the last person you'd want to talk to... but I'm here

Probably because he has dealt with suicidal people before
And is aware of jerks on the internet

And he's right

Suicidal people will often use others as a crutch. Sometimes intentionally sometimes unintentionally and it's not healthy. There is a time where it can become abusive and they need to seek professsional help.

Anyone who turns to a loved one and says "I need you to stop me from killing myself." whether they know it or not is abusing that person. and it can go on for months or years

I don't think you truly realize how much of suicide is tied to mental health.

Whether I've been suicidal or not, I've never truly believed it's me against the world. That doesn't mean I haven't felt it though. Knowing and feeling are not the same thing, and knowing can't always be enough. If it was, I would just talk myself out of anxiety because more often than not, it's just not rational... but that's just not how it works.
