I cannot defeat the War Chest in Dual Strike. Without defeating the War Chest, I cannot mark this game completed in my backloggery.

SO!

What I did with the Fire Emblem games to avoid playing hard mode was cheat by coming up with a way for my actual normal playthrough to count as a CHALLENGE RUN. In that case, I simply noted that I did not let any allies die and did not use any vulnererneraries. Mostly because I didn't want to waste turns. Then I could mark them as MASTERED in backloggery, which is a subset of completed.

SO!

Help me come up with a way for a normal run of Advance Wars Dual Strike to count as a challenge run. What are some special techniques I might have used or not used without realizing it?

I'm about 60% certain I didn't use any artillery (on attempts where I actually succeeded) but I'm hoping for something a little more convincing.

I dont remember too many specifics on any of the games now, but I definitely just spammed infantry and mechs when I was broke and losing to stall.

Tbh, depending on CO that may not even be gimping yourself, especially if you're Max. Would be a good Sami run tho, since she relies on artillery to take out what mass infantry cant.

Regardless, the balancing on advance wars' hard mode on the original is so absolutely perfect that no challenge run can truly compare. I managed an S rank on almost every mission save the final Sturm battle. Tbh, the last fight was the only one where RNG really mattered, and even then I found ways to manipulate the AI. The rest can pretty much always be muddled through.

Have you done the War Room missions? Reward is well worth it. General Nell is my favorite CO, her luck bonus is borderline OP abd Lucky Star can turn an entire battle around. Interestingly enough, I always presumed her luck bonus boosted firepower, but it actually improves damage directly.

Well I gave it one last honest attempt. Tried to win by T-Copter base cover strategy but the little A hole enemy CO had to randomly spawn this one stupid infantry and move it directly into my only path to his HQ for no reason at exactly the wrong time.

I'm gonna go with no artillery if nobody has anything better.
