1 (never finished it)
AoL
OoT
OoS
OoA
ALttP

This is, of course, considering OoT to be in all branches or whatever.

Well yeah, that's one reason it took me so long to realize this.

And the way they did it too. Like why do you just randomly choose OoT has a "what if Link failed" continuity when that's not even an ending to the game. Literally what if you, the player, got a game over and gave up.

There's an official timeline now?

I liked thinking that other than the obvious connections like OOT-MM-TP and OOT-WW that everything else was just a different interpretation of a Legend.

I thought that the failed Link ending was the one where Link was in the time chamber, and so nobody was there to save Hyrule? Like two realities were created when Link pulled the sword, one where he assumes the hero of time and saves Hyrule, and one where he is not present, or something like that.

Then again, the thing is such a convoluted mess, it's hard to keep any of it straight at this point.

Best to just go Red Dwarf style, and admit that there's no continuity at all.

Nah, they unnecessarily made a third "Link died in his attempt to stop Ganon" timeline which led to the "Downfall Timeline" that included ALttP, Link's Awakening, the Oracles, and the NES games.

Because they did that, now they have an excuse to pull that with any other game in the series. Maybe that's why they did it because they really don't care about the timeline, judging how they made BotW essentially a reboot by referencing EVERYTHING and muddying up the timeline they just established. Aonuma even said BotW was like a reboot in that it doesn't fall into any one timeline.

You're probably right. Not that that makes any more sense lol.

Yeah, and they had a revised one in a more recent book. I think it just added a couple of games that released since then.

Being fair, Nintendo brought that on themselves. They were the ones who came up with the "split timeline from OoT" BS when talked about Wind Waker's setting, and up until that point they had a clear "this is where this game takes place in the timeline." I think after that point fan theories ran wild while Nintendo stopped caring about an overall timeline.

I know that it came with the digital only Hyrule Historia I got back in 2013 that came with the Wii U special edition that had a packed in (as in, digital, already downloaded) Wind Waker.

But at the same time, Ive never known anyone to take it very seriously.

Eh

I don't really have any desire to play more Zelda. They're nicely made games but I'm not smart enough to play them so I always end up frustrated by the end of the game.

Well, I guess that only applies to 1, OoA and OoT. But still.
