Because Bungie own the Destiny IP and would only enter a deal with a publisher if that was the case. They would have stayed with Microsoft, but Microsoft wanted to own all their IPs

I'm pretty sure Bungie actually owned the IP the whole time. Activision was simply the publisher.

It's crazy just how mucb more successful Destiny 2 has been without Activision as well. They had requirements for X expansions per year just to keep the cash flowing and it clearly hurt quality.
D2 still isn't perfect, but the baggage weighing it down was removed and it's so obvious.

Has D2 really been that successful since Activision left.

Because the subreddit is pretty upset with the shit like sun setting and how the game is turning into a full on grind-fest instead of just 80% of a grind-fest.
