I've got a friend who has expressed interest in working out again and he seems like he'd be a great lifting partner. The only problem is I'm worried about being around a bunch of strangers and catching covid. My dad has a reduced immune system after his liver surgery and if I get him sick he can die. My health is pretty poor right now, I'm 245 at 5'10, I feel like getting a gym membership would really help me get back into good shape. So far I've only been walking to lose weight, and while that is good it can get pretty boring.

If I could have things my way though, I would just work out at home. The only problem is I have like zero motivation to do it and very limited space. If I worked out at home I could save myself $30 per month, and pretty much assure I don't get my father sick.

What should I do?

Either gather up the motivation to work out at home, don't come into contact with your dad if you go to the gym, or wait until the pandemic is over to go to the gym.

Its just really hard to lift at home. I know this is what I should do but the atmosphere is simply not there. Exercises would be limited too because I'm on the 2nd floor of my building, so I can't do anything that is too loud for the downstairs neighbor. I also cannot avoid coming into contact with my dad, we live together.

I wouldnt do it.

Im so brother about your low motivation. Ive fought bouts of that too. If your dad somehow got sick and you knew it was because of you, you would have to live with that. I wouldnt wish that on any man.

Keep walking. Maybe buy a bicycle. Break things up. You got this man. Keep going.

My suggestion, as I suggest to everyone, is to give DDP Yoga a shot. I'm fairly lazy and have social anxiety so going to a gym just feels off to me. But DDP Yoga helped me drop from 270 down to 228 in 3 1/2 months. You can find a couple of his videos online for free, and tbh it was the best choice I ever made. Now that said, as I said I'm really lazy(mom thinks its a form of Cushins since its a motivation thing, but I digress). So I gained all that weight back and then some.

No lifting involved. It's a combination of Yoga and Isometrics(forcing your body to tense up in positions to make it feel like you're pulling weights). The first time I did it, I managed to get through 5 minutes of the 30 minute workout. After that, 6 minutes, and it kept going until I was able to do it twice a day. Just be prepared, its surprising how much you will sweat. I would use up 2 bath towels my first few times. So you'll need water and towels. The Yoga mat helps, but isn't needed(though I'd get one eventually just in case). Just take it at your own leisure.

Go to the gym. Gyms are far more sanitary than your local grocery stores, and easier to maintain distancing if you feel the need.

Yeah that's the thing, economically and safety wise I am much better off working out at home. The problem is finding the motivation. It's so easy to just not do it, especially when you know you have to do an hour of free manual labor.
