Just to expand on what reaver said:
As a remake of the first game, Kiwami suffers a bit from clinging to the original simple story and low-key tone. I feel the added content goes a little too over the top to compensate for it. Kiwami 2 is a much more tonally consistent game. Also it's made in the new Dragon Engine, which is an upscale on the graphics. A lot of people also hold 2's story in the highest regard. It's not my personal favorite, but it's still a good story. They're both good. There are no bad Yakuza games. --- CyricZ ... Copied to Clipboard!

Perhaps I was a little spoiled on the HnK: Lost Paradise spinoff being my gateway to the series - been slowly going through 0 and yearning for a dub. Tightrope between authenticity and emotional impact. Still having fun.

Playing 2 was a huge adjustment because of it and very distracting. Having played the rest of the games now though, I couldn't imagine Kiryu with any other voice, I don't even remember how he sounded in the dub and I don't really care to, either. --- "I still have a tattoo to get, that says I'm living in the moment." ... I agree that Yakuza Kiwami 1 is pretty good, but not amazing by any means. I'd personally get the 3 games deal, but I could understand why you might be hesitate if you've never played the series.
