I'm at the last dungeon and the game is great...easily a 9 or 9.5/10. Its definitely not the greatest game ever by a long shot. I could list off some better games easily (Portal 2, The Last of Us 1, Metal Gear Solid 1/2, Arkham City, Mario Odyssey...etc)

Long story short it's a great game but people who say it's the GOAT are high

It holds up remarkably well for being ~22 years old, but at the time it came out, it was the pinnacle of exploration/adventure gameplay design.

Smooth, responsive controls with three-dimensional combat in real-time, an innovative multi-button item-mapping system for items that still holds over to modern Zelda games, Z-targeting to solve issues of fighting/moving in a 3D space, well-designed environments with tons of atmosphere and top-tier music, etc. etc.

It may not be the undisputed GOAT, but it's in the running. It's nearly perfect by today's standards, and for its time, it was beyond perfect.

9 to 9.5 is a pretty damn good score.. like top 10 easily.

And it depends on the person. Certainly my favorite 64 zelda game.

Played it for the first time like 2 or 3 years ago on 3ds. My favorite game ever.

Honestly pretty amazing that a game that's over 20 years old can still become someone's favorite game these days. I replay it ever 1-2 years and it's so fucking good it's embarrassing.

I disagree. The 3DS version has decent graphics for last gen.

Timeless, my ass, though. Wind Waker suffers from pacing issues and a lack of dungeons. Ocarina of Time is a constant journey from one compelling locale to the next, while Wind Waker is more like a waiting simulator. Point your boat in a direction, play the song, and wait...eventually you'll get someplace cool. Or maybe you'll just find a random island in the shape of a die that serves no purpose.

When Wind Waker is good (sunken Hyrule Castle, for example) it's really good, but there's a lot of fluff between the good bits. Ocarina of Time has a world that's large without being tedious. Wind Waker hit the tedious mark and rocketed straight past it.
