Because covid has me bored as fuck and I've had 2 people recommend it to me, I bought a uke. I've played flute for like a semester in high school and learned Mary had a Little Lamb pretty much self taught. So my musical experience is damn near 0

Any players here with advice for a new player? Or hell someone really trying music out for the first time

I was strumming my uke right when I saw this topic. I was actually a guitar player first so it didn't take too long for me to pick up, just had to get used to the tuning. But it's so small and easy to pick up and fun to play. There's not a whole lot you need to know about music if you want to play, just learn the basic chord shapes. Since it only has 4 strings, there are only so many chord shapes. A little music theory may help you understand playing in key, especially since there are few strings and the ukulele isn't really known for its fleshy, bass note chords like a guitar usually is. It's a decent accompaniment instrument and also one for just messing around. My favorite songs to play on the uke are Beatles songs, they just translate so amazingly well due to the higher range they play and the types of chords they use.

As for looking for one to buy, make sure you try them out first, because I've played a lot of cheap ones and they don't stay in tune for 5 seconds. You can usually find a bunch at Guitar Center, which should be open now (with pretty extreme social distancing measures, they only allow like 5 people in the store at a time even though it's the size of a warehouse). Mine is a Lanikai, costs probably $75 to $100 new but it's the best kind I've played, even compared to more expensive ones. (edit) I see you've already bought one so never mind this part.
