It doesn't matter what league you're talking about as long as you're talking about the league itself (as opposed to talking about the men in it). Think of the English word family: Despite consisting of several people, it's a singular word. "My family is weird." "My family consists of several people. Police is always policia, so that isn't gendered, just a word that ends with "a".
