A contract is not a magic spell or some physical law of the universe. It worries me how many people in this topic are resting on that point. Contract or no contract, the videos should be taken down because that's the right thing to do. No one should accept this because of a contract because a contract doesn't absolve you of the responsibility to be a good human being.

This is one of the main downsides of Capitalism. It makes people turn off their morals and ethics and replace them with some weird version of contract law.

A Contract is a Contract is a Contract. Period. She should've made a better one before signing.

I actually wasn't talking about slavery or indentured servitude. There's lots of things below that that invalidates contracts. Particularly for being unconscionable or unfair. I would know, being a lawyer and all. Additionally, contract law isn't and shouldn't be the decider of our morality or how we treat other people. Even if there was a federal statute calling her out by name and saying her very soul is bound to the contract, that doesn't make it so or excuse enforcing it. People still decide what to do. Your logic is the same as a banker who forecloses on people's homes during a depression, while others don't. Just because someone agreed to something and you are authorized to hold them to that agreement doesn't mean you should. This should be uncontroversial, and likely the reason it's not is because we're talking about a former sex worker.

Again, that's why I said contracts are not enforced every single day. We are not simply talking about the law. I'm trying to get you to think about your actual actions and whether you want to do them or not, not the law. The law is literally nothing more than the floor you can't go below, the bare minimum level of human being you are allowed to be and still roam free. I'm talking about being the well off landlord who throws out a family during the pandemic "because they signed a lease" vs the landlord who acknowledges that that's a fucked up thing to do and makes a deal. The landlord has the legal right to do the first and a moral obligation to do the latter. And people are fully justified in judging the first.
