Reminder that RE3 only exists because Sony had a shitfit they weren't getting CV first. It was rushed out in less than a year by Capcom's B team using RE2's engine.

20 years later, the same thing happens pretty much.

RE3 was and is still infinitely better than CV.

Code Veronica was a trash game with the most annoying cast of RE characters yet. I would rather listen to Ark's lispy surfer voice for hours than hear that whiny bitch steve for 5 seconds.

I didn't have an issue with it. The gameplay was great, the puzzles were fun, and playing as both Claire and Chris was pretty cool.

CV is just harder to play through each time afterward.

Hideki Kamiya's RE3 eventually became Devil May Cry. What was originally a spinoff called Resident Evil 1.9 was retooled into RE3 when Kamiya's RE3 floundered. Code Veronica spun out of a failed Saturn port of RE2. Code Veronica is not the "real" RE3, and you are lying if you say otherwise. The whole "continuing Claire's story from 2" aspect of it is also handled completely terribly. She's been searching for her brother for 3 months, it's even the reason she gets captured! How does this resolve? How does she finally find her brother? She sends a fucking email to Leon to tell him to send a fucking email to Chris. Besides, if we're to take "continuing X's story" as material for something being the real sequel, isn't RE3 the real RE2, and RE5 the real RE3, since they continue Jill's story? Isn't RE4 the real RE3, since it continues Leon's story along with Ada's? The utter horseshit that people come up with in defense of Code Veronica is ludicrous. Code Veronica is easily the worst classic RE and I don't know why it has such fanatical defenders.

The two arguments I mentioned are mindlessly parroted despite any and all evidence to the contrary. All that being said, I seriously cannot understand how people like a game that is easily 1/3 trite, uninteresting backtracking, is so poorly designed that many first time players get softlocked halfway through, has two of the worst characters in all of Resident Evil at the forefront, completely squanders Wesker by making them almost completely irrelevant to the plot, and turns Claire into a damsel in distress so that we can play as the brick known as Chris, who has absolutely no personality whatsoever in CVX

Call me crazy, but I don't see how that adds up to a good game.

Agreed. Better level design, more variety of enemies, more engaging plot, the Veronica virus has more utility and becomes a lot important than the Nemesis virus, and most importantly way better music. Steve is worst assisting protagonist though.

Debatable on the backtracking, since you have to do inventory "drops" several times in RE0, and way too many items take two slots. Both games also have issues with buggy enemies (Bandersnatches and RE0 Hunters).

That being said, CV does have big issues with locking you out of stuff. The bowgun(!) and the magnum, mainly.
