when people think of good children books it's always Hungry Hungry Caterpillar or something really really old. Has there been any newer books that are good?

There's a large variety of My Little Pony books for that age. Towards the older end, Super Hero Girls also has accompany novellas. Kind of like practice for the required reading you might have to do in 4th grade.
