A promotional image for movie theatres in Canada and the US have released showing how the "new normal" will look in the times of COVID-19 as spread seating and less people and some with mandatory masks will now be the common when they open again late this month and July...and just as distributers keep pushing back high profile movies into August and the Fall leaving the summer season for the biggest bust in HISTORY!!

Landmark Cinemas, one of the 2 biggest theatre chains in Canada released a picture showing how people will be seated at their theatres as it shows people spread apart with less people inside. Canadian theatres have also NOT made masks mandatory given the low cases now in Canada where they have now been able to flatten the curve and cases have not been rising unlike the United States.

A stark contrast with the US movie theatres where attendees must now wear masks when viewing a movie except when eating but it's not sure how they will enforce the rules to be sure they are wearing masks unless employees come in to view the attendance every intervals.

Moviegoers will also see plexiglass behind counters at concessions and assigned seatings purchased in advance will be the norm as well with staggered showtimes to give people time to was the theatres.

Rising cases in the US means the movie release calendar will always be a work in progress as Tenet, WB's biggest summer title has been moved several times and now to August 12. Mulan, Disney's 200M franchise starter is now pushed to August 21 as even those dates are uncertain if cases keep rising

Movie theatres have been suffering the most and are losing huge amounts of dollars with no new films and their survival is at a brink given these new restrictions and now no new movies being released by studios.

Word of mouth is no longer "was that movie good" but rather "how safe was it?" and "what was the sanitizer situation like?" as moviegoers will be cautious once they reopen fully

Will you still watch a movie in theatres if it looks like this?

Actually, I might have to change my answer.

I would have to learn how to breath in a mask without fogging my glasses first, otherwise it would be pretty pointless.

I care less about going to theaters than ever. The "movie theater experience" has long been lost
