I don't get how Uncle Ben's is racist otherwise, unless African Americans aren't allowed to be happy which seems very racist itself.

Was the character of Uncle Ben created with the context of racism and bigotry? That's pretty much the only reason they got rid of Aunt Jemima. They never had a problem with it until society made them have a problem with it.

Back in the days, white racists didnt call elderly African Americans for Mr and Mrs, they called them Uncle and Aunt.
Thereby it is racism to call any African American Uncle or Aunt today.

it seems like it's more about getting rid of the constant reminders that our society was built around slavery when we're way past that now

changing the everyday casual reminders that subtlely inject the idea into everyone's heads without being obvious about it
