You are the living soul of a planet where you are reliant on the essences of the lifeforms of the world you watch over. Whenever one of them die, their essence is returned to the planet, i.e. you. After a certain time has passed, in order to continue your existence, you will need to absorb the essences of every single lifeform on your planet at once, annihilating them but revitalizing you, allowing the planet to be reborn and life to emerge again, albeit in a primitive form. This results in a cycle of death and rebirth of your world.

However, if you don't do this, then the inhabitants of your world will eventually develop enough to be able to leave the planet and explore the greater Universe, depleting you of the resource needed to continue your existence and eventually fading away.

Which would you choose to do as this "god"? Continue the cycle to maintain your existence for as long as you deem it (eternity, even); or give your inhabitants the freedom to expand out into the stars, even if it means that you will cease to exist as a result?

Continue my existence. In this situation, those beings would mean as much to me as the trillions of microbes that get killed every day when I do things like shower or wash my hands. They're inconsequential.

Eh doesn't make sense, some leaving doesn't deplete the total number on the planet.

In most cases it would continue to grow.

Not seeing the purpose to being alive in this scenario if it's just gonna repeat a sequence over and over. I mean, as this spirit, I have none of the primal drives that I do as a living entity. I don't hunger, or feel alone, or want to fuck.

The more life that's been given to the planet, the more that you will need to revitalize yourself.

Once they start leaving, you start losing the amount you need for revitalization.

Let's say that as the god of this world, you have the ability to manifest in a physic form to directly interact with the world and its people, in whatever way you see fit.

Presumably if their lives are tied to your essence, reproduction would slow and eventually stop if not enough people were dying to replenish the essence needed for new people to be born.
