Reducing polling places doesnt seem like the right move. Fewer places=larger crowds=higher chance a bunch of people get infected.

They instituted mail-in ballots and early voting, but I'm not sure if there are numbers yet to show if voting increased, stayed the same, or decreased compared to previous years. Mail-in and early voting are great, but the way they handled in-person voting by having one place to vote per city is ridiculous. Some places obviously need more places than others.

The polling went a lot smoother than people were anticipating. Lines were averaging an hour long in Louisville. They did have to extend the polls closing by like half an hour.

But yeah, it is fucked up.

it's basically a small scale version of what's going to happen in the big election. close down democrat area voting stations under fears of COVID, make it really hard to vote out republicans. it's also why trump is trying to push the narrative that everything is fine now and we can open up. get the COVID infections sky high so they have a self-made reason to close them down. and trying to kill mail-in ballots as well means even more voter suppression

Yea it is. Vote by mail should always be an option, not a damn near requirement. Plus, the blatant irresponsibility of have 600k people vote in one place during a pandemic is insanity. This is all without even mentioning the blatant racism and voter suppression

If it can run as relatively smoothly as it did in Kentucky, I don't think it'll be too bad.

Also I think they're going to wind up leaning too hard into the whole "we're fine to open up" and nobody is going to buy the whole "we have to close down polling stations"

They can't rely on their own base because then that'd mean you'd have to admit you were wrong or their base would have to admit the covid thing is worse than they've been saying

And I think the mail in ballot thing is going to backfire on the GOP.

Mail in ballots allow people to vote that don't want to go to a polling station.
People that are at the most risk of COVID problems will be less likely to go to a public polling station.
Old people are at a higher risk of COVID problems.
Old people have higher rates of conservative political affiliation.

You would think they would do everything they can to allow older people to vote but they are doing the opposite.
