I tried turning on subtitles once out of curiosity, and now I can't watch without them, ok?

My wife does but I don't.

Only for foreign movies, even then if there's a dub i'll watch that instead. I used to be in the sub only crowd but now im like fuck it, im not watching to read.

Sometimes, especially if I am watching late at night because if I have the volume too loud, the women in the apartment next to mine can hear it, and when the volume is kind of quiet sometimes I have a hard time understanding dialogue. Also honestly, just from watching foreign films, I am just kind of used to watching with subtitles on and prefer it.

You hear way more stuff you otherwise wouldnt.

I usually watch TV with the captions on. Sometimes it helps when the dialog is difficult to understand (like Boomhauer).

And then there was the time that MeTV captioned the WKRP end credits:

On. I might miss what a character said so prefer seeing the words on the screen.

Subtitles are distracting to me and only other people having them on shows me how not great they can be.
I prefer subtitles over dubbing in general if it's foreign to me though.

Usually yeah, I turn them off for comedies or horror films

Oh, they spoil game shows for sure. No fun at all having subtitles for that.
