jfc they went in immediately trying to escalate the situation. Dude was just calmly walking home there was no need to go in like that. And don't give me the tired old "the dispatch made it sound worse!". the cops have eyes and could clearly see there was no immediate threat when they approached.

this is just so incredibly inhumane. he was clearly in pain and trying to fix his position to get out of it. Then they fucking overdose him on a drug without knowing how it would affect him

this one fucking hurts just as bad as floyd's ugh

yup and they did so without a proper medical examination. And if what the video says is true regarding the dosage, they basically overdosed him to death.

and why the fuck was that drug even necessary?

Ahhh that makes more sense. Still, I don't think ketamine should be used to sedate people in police situations in general. Especially after putting someone in a 15 minute chokehold.

All the cop murdering black people stories are depressing, but this one is really fucking disgusting and gut wrenching. He was trying to be so nice and apologizing to the pieces of shit who were choking him enough to make him vomit repeatedly. Fucking fuck.

He would literally be not moving and they were yelling, "Dude, stop" as if they were immediately in danger while the kid is suffering on the ground and vomiting. This is fucking so depressing. I fucking hate cops man. Major reform is needed.

It's protocol for sedating people experiencing excited delirium or severe agitation. The initial dose is usually done around 150-200mg, but everyone reacts differently, and it's very unlikely to inject a second dose on the field rather than in the hospital.

It's also really ridiculous to use ketamine in this case because the agitation was all a result of how the police was holding the kid. These types of holds are not comfortable at all and it makes your body react. None of this was necessary. They escalated this and used an unnecessary amount of force.

Ok, why did the EMTs give him a high dose of a potent sedative that isn't normally used in pharmacological restraint?

In the last couple years it has become a lot more prevelant to use it as a restraint before loading someone experiencing excited delirium into an ambulance because it is one of the safest sedatives out there.

There's been so many fucked up cases of police brutality that came to light over the last month but as someone on the spectrum this one's affected me the most. Apparently one of the "suspicious behaviors" that prompted the 911 call in the first place was him flailing his arms - a common form of stimming for people on the spectrum that I do myself - and that combined with him being an "introvert" leads me to believe he was autistic as well. Obviously the racial dynamic should be acknowledged here, but I hope people also begin to address police brutality against the disabled in light of this story.

What's your angle here? For one, I never said him flailing his arms was the only reason the person called 911, just that that part of the situation specifically illustrated that he might have been autistic. Secondly, while I won't deny seeing a man wearing a ski mask that late at night would be suspicious out of context, you're aware he was anemic, right?

Because people in the healthcare industry still think that black people are tougher or can take more pain than white people. So they give them massive doses of shit. They dont see them as human.

He was listening to musicprobably doing hand motions to the music he was listening to. He even explained to them he was turning off his music so he could listen.

Heres an idea for a de-escalation tactic: try to listen to what the person/suspect is telling you, instead of ignoring them, talking over them, making assumptions, or just outright skipping all that and going straight to violence.

Whether he was suspicious or not, they had no reason to touch him. He no sooner got the earbuds out of his ears/tried to turn his music off, that they grabbed him and were trying to restrain him in place. If 2 cop cars pull up on anyone, and they just walk up and grab you while youre minding your business, the reaction is going to be anger and surprise, telling them to get the fuck off.

Civilians are expected to know police protocol, or exhibit control over themselves that the police themselves do not exhibit when it comes to interactions with suspects...or in this case a random innocent person.

Doesn't even get to that point if the cops don't come in ready to fight from the start. I recall a video where a guy open carrying got the cops called on him. Cop approached him calmly, talked to him, assessed the situation then said "oh ok, have a good day, just be careful"...Done. This guy is just calmly walking home but because he's dark and has a portion of his face covered the cops come in already stressed out talking about "i have the right to stop you!" or whatever, already was ready to put him into a head lock no even 3 seconds in. Doesn't matter who fucked up "worse". The fuck up started at the very beginning of that footage.....its THAT shit that needs to change.

it should have never gotten to a point where EMTs were involved. He was panicking and throwing up before that. Yes, EMTs fucked up but you shouldn't try and lighten the blow for the cops. their actions were the catalyst to everything else in that video.
