The acting, the choreography, story telling, etc were all terrible. Complete abortion of history. At least attempt to make it somewhat accurate to the time period it is based on (like not having Chinese with gunpowder meeting up with Caesar for example).

Forgot Karl Urban played Caesar in it as well.

Erm

I think you missed the tone of the show (and Hercules)

It was never even pretending to be accurate. It was cheesy and goofy full of pop culture references and fun

It is. TC is just dimwitted apparently and couldn't figure it out. It's not a history lesson. It's all made up. You would think the giants and gods would give that away. It's 90s cheese man.

It was a low budget syndicated show aired on weekends in the middle of the day. It's main competition was golf, reruns of Bonanza, and TV movie matinees. It looked cheap when it was first broadcast in the 90s.

Ngl I picked up the first season at Wal-Mart for like $10 out of curiosity and I couldn't even make it through the first episode. I like campy and cheesy stuff but that show did not click with me.

I might give it another shot though. The woman that plays Xena is pretty hot tbh.

It was always a cheesy and goofy show, it was suppose to be fun and to get more people into greek mythology which it succeeded in doing.

13 year olds who didn't have access to porn whenever they wanted.

Xena and Relic Hunter provided fap material to many teens in the late 90's. As did MTV/Much Music Countdowns and late night infomercials where girls just rolled around in bikinis.

I wonder if the xena and relic hunter girls knew about this. How weird must that feel for them?

I was wondering if they ever gave it the hd treatment. Nope. It would probably ruin it if they did. Surprised to see that NBC has all the episode for free on the website.

From what I can recall, it was a series produced and helmed by Sam Raimi - so it can't be bad. Besides, I actually caught a mini-marathon on SyFy the other week, and I liked what I saw.

I tried watching Hercules on a modern TV once. There was an episode where he grabbed a dragons tail and with a modern HD screen I could see Kevin sorbos arms clipping in and out of the tail.

But more on topic I loved how little both shows would take themselves seriously.

Me too. New episodes would come on about 1am on weekends and I'd stay up both Friday and Saturday to watch them. On Saturdays I'd switch over to fox for whatever episode of highlander they were airing that week

Hercules & Xena was so much fun.

I never took them seriously on the historical accuracy, it was never about that.

I knew more about Greek Mythology than half the writing staff at that age.

I knew they weren't being serious, and that's fine in it's own way.

Nothing wrong with having fun. Hercules & Xena was never meant to be a historical documentary.

I never was a huge fan of Xena back in the day. I didn't mind it, but overall I wasn't too interested in it. I really did like Hercules though. Think the show came out when I was around 13, and it was one of my favorites at the time. I haven't watched any episodes in years. I can't imagine they aged too well either. But it was sure great to watch back then.
