That's all well and good during normal circumstances. But during a pandemic, and associated economic crisis, and uprisings for racial and social justice, it doesn't make as much sense. You gotta read the room.

What is the benefit to backing his opponent exactly? You think his supporters will say "Golly, I guess I WILL support the establishment!" If Engel loses, you just welcome his challenger into the party. If he wins, you still look like you're loyal to people who stay in line.

In less good news, my local incumbent is winning comfortably over his progressive challenger.

State or national?

I understand what you're saying and why they are doing it. They may even be right. It just doesn't match up with the moment or the facts on the ground though or where I believe the future of the party is going. It only makes sense as a matter of internal party politics which IS important, don't get me wrong. But I don't think it would be such a bad signal to have some internal consequences for losing touch with your district.

McGrath is dusting Booker rn
There's nothing in from Jefferson or Fayette County, which contain Louisville and Lexington respectively.
In any case, it's close enough we might not know the winner for another week.

Edit: Apparently the Booker campaign expects Jefferson county to be very good for them: their exit polling has him up 82-16.

Which would probably put him in the lead. Take it with a generous helping of salt, of course, as with any unofficial tally.

First call I've seen for Bowman. Mondaire Jones and Ritchie Diaz are also the apparent winners. Final tally will take a while, but their leads appear greater than the number of outstanding ballots could make up.

AOC also got almost 73% of the vote in her primary, in spite of her challenger spending ~$3 million dollars.

Jefferson County came in, netting Booker almost 7,000 votes, good enough to put him in the lead. In fact, he now leads by 3.5%. Still a lot of votes left to be counted, of course.
