I thought it was just a simpsons thing, and then just a tv show thing, but apparently there are PA systems in schools? Not just key & peele skits?

We had intercom that acted as a PA. Could be used for schoolwide announcements or to talk to specific classrooms.

How were announcements delivered if not over the PA. Giant daily assemblies?

Like so the entire school's infrastructure had wires that connected them all together to hear these announcements and stuff? That's pretty interesting. Wonder what the history of those things are and how they're built.

Yeah, all my schools growing up had PA systems. Public school vs private school might be a thing.

What fucking backwoods schoolhouse couldn't afford a PA system? And what was it like going to school with Tom Sawyer?

There was never a need for daily announcements though, but yeah they just gathered us in the auditorium in timely fashion and we'd listen to whatever the adults had to say about whatever.

I know for sure my middle and high school did, I don't remember hearing announcements over one in elementary school though.

I don't understand not having a PA. I thought that was required. I was born in 1981, and I never went to a school that didn't have a PA system. and in jr high and highschool we even had tv's in every classroom and the morning news happened at the end of 2nd period and we watched it like a tv news show. and one semester in jr high I actually was in the "broadcasting" class and did the news myself. appeared on the tv a few times.

I would guess PA systems would be more common in public schools

In the UK, I don't think I've ever seen a PA system in a school.

Maybe it's region based.

I distinctly remember my elementary school having at least intercoms that went from each classroom to the office. This was like 25 years ago too.

The primary school around the corner has a gigantic speaker system they blast announcements through.

We live a good 500 metres away, but can hear everything perfectly as quite loudly.

They also use popular music instead of a bell, so every morning, recess and lunchtime they blast the same song for months.

Whoever is responsible for recording and automating the announcements is also a moron. Over the last holiday period, rather than turning them off they had somehow managed to set the announcements to play at night.

We just never had our class teacher tell them at the start each day when we were getting registered to show we'd turned up.
