looks fine but amazon is super expensive. at a korean super market you can get a box 3 times as big for this price. but if its not available, i understand.

Green one isn't gochujang, it's ssamjang dipping sauce.

theres different levels of spiciness for gochujang, but uh, tbh i can't really tell a difference lol.

whats weird is that i buy the gochugaru, the hot pepper powder, all the time. and i love using it in korean cooking and im used to the spiciness.

then one year i grew korean peppers from a korean seed packet i got from my local korean market, dried the peppers and made the powder and its insanely hot. i dunno if im doing something different, or if the freshness makes a difference, but i can barely use it in cooking because, while delicious, the spiciness is too much to use it in the amount korean cooking requires. i made spicy tofu soup with it once, and i couldn't finish it because it was excruiciating. but if i used less, it wouldn't taste as good.

When you made it into the powder, did you remove the seeds and innards? If not, that may be why it was too spicy. Also could just be the specific breed of chili pepper.

yeah im pretty sure i did, because i have a bag full of the seeds that i got from them. i used them to grow more this year, though thinking i might have crossed some bell peppers into them but i guess we'll see.

the seed packet says .
