Different setting but otherwise it's the same, a bunch of assholes working in or around the same field. But Bojack moves beyond just a comedy and becomes a legit good drama, and has some incredibly well delivered feels, both good and bad, including a couple of the most painful and most cathartic moments I've seen in a TV show.

Disagree. Also Bojack was 10/10 throughout. I can't even make it through this latest season of Archer. I don't know if it's even supposed to be funny anymore lol

About when would you say Bojack gets good? I've had it recommended to me because of how it depicts mental illness, but so far it just seems like lowbrow humor and really ugly drawings. Granted, I've only watched three episodes so far.

(On a more trivial note, I think the show is really ugly visually, which definitely doesn't help, but maybe I'll get over it)

Give the first season a try. It gets better and better, and you'll get some taste of the heavier elements but they don't take center stage until late season 3 or 4

Honestly, it turns from crude humor to very dark drama in a way that I don't feel someone with severe mental issues should necessarily watch this. It does some things well, but a lot of the show just twists a knife in your gut.

bojack is definitely one of the best animated shows around

and the way it deals with depression but also with comedy is spot on

Bojack is a show about mental health, at its core.

Archer is a show about funny bullshit with a Bond like character.

The only similarity really is they both have a sarcastic asshole as the main character.

Wouldn't say Bojack is better written. Deeper yes, but Archer was never meant to be that.

Most people consider the first few episodes to be the worst, so hold on a bit longer. It starts getting real good near the end of S1.
