Yeah it happened a few days ago. His story is much more murky though so it's not really clear what really went down. A lot of it reads like a relationship gone sour with lingering hurts. A lot of it seems he's more like an alcoholic asshole than a predator or rapist.

Avellone is too good of a writer (for video game standards) to be really canceled from the industry as a whole. He is going to have no problem finding work in the future.

I'm guessing Avellone has barely wrote anything for Vampire 2 yet so it is easy to say his writing has been removed.

Sexual abuse allegations might be true (there are a lot of assholish pervs out there who don't know how to take 'no' for an answer) just as well as they might not be true (especially in Murrica, where you can get a nice fat compensation and 15 minutes of fame out of it)

Even if such allegations are true though, the abuser should definitely be prosecuted for it, but I still don't see the point of 'cancelling' the guilty party. That's not gonna help in preventing more sexual abuse, and it has nothing to do with what they already have accomplished professionally.

Not sure if Avellone's guilty or not. Regardless, I still love the shit out of many games he has helped develop, and I will continue to do so.

You dont think theres anything wrong with getting someone drunk in an attempt to take advantage of them? Just because he was getting equally drunk doesnt mean it isnt predatory. Quite a few people count on that to lower their own inhibitions.

And sending unsolicited sexual messages is 100% inappropriate and super creepy. Especially from a boss to a subordinate. You would be fired and blacklisted if it was caught, especially with repeat behavior.

It's not a one off thing though. Apparently he is blacklisted at conventions for making out with several black out drunk women. On top of sexually harassing coworkers. Apparently this was already known with some of his employers as well and was why he has been fired in the past.

It's also odd that every project he has been fired from have specifically mentioned he was barely involved to begin with.

There's a lot of stuff that has already happened behind the scenes with this story.

Also, I'm sort of a fan of his work but the biggest thing I was a fan of he was involved in was New Vegas and most of that was actually Josh Sawyer's doing who I'm a bigger fan of by far.

You've been trying this entire to downplay and minimize the severity of Avellone's actions. The behavior that's been described in the allegations is predatory, full stop. You people are something else, you take one person's word as gospel because it fits some weird movement or narrative you want to follow but somehow it's taboo to even discuss why something happened the way it did or why someone is the way they are. It's not always so clear with people you know. There's a lot of baggage in this particular instance between them and if you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you, it's worth talking about I think. There is literally nothing wrong with trying to discuss something and the various tendrils of a situation and those like you who want to insult people that do and chastise them for not just joining the chorus of people calling for heads should probably look in the mirror sometime and realize how ridiculous you are. It's not my fault that you can't think on anything deeper than a Twitter-level.

Accusations like these ruins lives, they should be taken extremely seriously and with gravity and many factors need to be considered before slapping a heavy label on anyone. Blindly believing everything at face value is a mistake. That doesn't mean you are minimizing an incident and people that try to say that are being ridiculous. This has nothing to do with "infantilizing women". Dragging blackout drunk strangers back to your room to fuck them is predatory. Sending sexually explicit mesages to subordinates is predatory. Whether it's a man or a woman What you're doing is "infantilizing" Avellone as someone who's too naive to realize what he was doing was wrong, when he's very clearly an adult who's more than capable of realizing why what he did was wrong.

You came into this topic trying to push a narrative. That narrative is that Avellone is a misunderstood victim of alcoholism and cancel culture, and that the people calling him out over his behavior are oversensitive ninnies. Oh boy, just wait til you read about how many more lives get ruined for sexual assault. No one is saying we shouldn't take accusations seriously. That's just what the people who employed Avellone have done; made their own evaluations of the allegations against him and made their own conclusion on their veracity and whether or not they want to keep their relationship with him. What you want isn't for the accusations to be taken "seriously", you want sympathy for Avellone.
