Some people watch on Xbox/consoles and that'd be a bit more involved.

Though sometimes its less about who is financially supporting you and people who miss the memo and never get the new link or place.

It's more like they have an opportunity to get the same job at a different location, but there's no guarantee their contacts from their old job will want to keep with them at the new location or that the new location will mesh with how they work.

Pretty telling how people itt think you can make a twitch account and start making money.

It was. Mixer went with the Epic Games strategy of offering a platform that is in every single way worse than their competitors but paying ludicrous amounts of money to try and force people into using it.

People with contracts didn't screwed. The closest you're going to get to people being 'screwed' is anyone who choose to start on mixer knowing the risk that mixer wasn't an established platform. Which is how risk work out.

No one who was making enough money for this to be a living was 'screwed', maybe some random who getting some extra spending money isn't going to stand out on twitch or facebook or youtube, but who gives a fuck.

if you make good content that people want to watch, people will find you. If you don't, you were doing a hobby not a job.

Okay but if we're talking about all the work individual streamers have done to build up their communities then it makes no sense for these communities to vaporize just because they switch platforms. That would suggest it was never about the streamers.

While some take contracts just for the money and move about when they're done, others do so with the thinking that they're going to build a stable community, likely with their contact people talking up the service and how it's going to flourish for years. Every internet venture is a risk, but you'd expect Microsoft of all companies to put a little more effort into it. It's not always going to be a simple as move on and expect everyone to follow. The smartest will survive because they likely have Patreon or an equivalent, but not everyone will make the cut. It's not as boohoo sad as 5000 people arriving to the only factory in the county to realize it's been shut down, but it's also not just a non-thing that affects nobody.

You now have a month to move your community if you have one or continue to not have on one whatever other platform you have. It's a disappointment in the sense that the quality of Mixer was pretty good. But outside of that I don't really see the big issue here. It's not exactly a big shock considering it was constantly in last place compared to the competition.

What did you expect them to do? The streamers have a month to let their community know where to follow them. What else is needed?

Yeah it's not that I'm jealous of streamers, its that they aren't victims of corporate malfeasance. The (very small number of) people who might actually suffer some meaningful loss of income from this were being foolish to rely on streaming on any platform for their livelihood. It's lamentable but not because they're getting screwed

This. I don't watch streams and don't care at all about that ecosystem, but even I knew that Mixer was a shallow puddle compared to Twitch. Voluntarily trying to build your career there is like trying to build a broadcasting brand on TruTV. Fucking why?

Less competition. People were taking a risk so they could be seen more easily unlike Twitch where they would have been drowned out by everyone else.

The streaming market is over saturated anyway right now. Trying to break into it now is like trying to break it as a professional athlete or a singer.

the top people will get noticed and the rest will get there 1k subs and be forgotten.
