A house on my street just went up for sale asking $500K. I got this place 4 bedroom 2 bath for $240K 5 years ago. Not to mention the house for sale is 3 bedroom with 1 bath with partial finished basement.

I'm getting a 2 bedroom house, that was built in the 50s, and a 30 minute commute, for about 90k.

4 years ago the house was valued at 35k....

I bought my first house in 2016 for $139k

Didn't improve shit on it and sold it for $165k exactly two years later

Bought the current house for $258k 10 months ago and according to Zillow it's worth $273k now

I always wondered how people afforded those nice ass houses and now I realize it's probably their 2nd or 3rd home and they bought it with all the equity from selling prior houses

This house was built in the mid 80s similar the ones in my area. But yeah it's hardly a gain for me cause if I sell I won't get something like this unless in the same price range $450-550K. And buying something better just means keeping the same mortgage I have now longer. The track I'm on I should be mortgage free by 55.

I want to get my place appraised but I feel like the cost to do so isn't really worth it unless you have something in mind to do with the information (I want to do it for tax reasons but even then it only matters when you're looking to sell).

Just do some comps in your area and calc a rough price based on average $/sq ft

Yeah don't get it appraised for no reason. I usually look online at realtor around my area since I know prices have gone up so I know what I could sell for. I'd list mine for $550K today if I wanted to cause I have more to offer than that other house my street. I probably won't sell this place for another 10-20 years.

We're probably gonna stick with this one forever tbh. It has 7 bedrooms, a 2 car garage, a privacy fenced yard, and it's in a nice ass quiet neighborhood two minutes from the highway so like 20 minutes from anything in the city.

About 3200sqft. Only thing I'd change is I wish we had a 3 car garage. But we have the space to extend our driveway a little bit so we can at least make it a 3 car driveway one day.

Mine supposedly went up by $28k according to the site that originally listed it and I bought it almost exactly a year ago

Probably worth more since as part of the renovations I undid all of the stupid shit the owner did, like having red and gold walls and installed light fixtures that looked more recent than the early 1990s
