i've been reading the Hyrule Historia and almost every page is 'why are you reading this when you could be playing our new amazing game Skyward Sword instead'

Well that's not true. Skyward Sword does get a focus, but it's also kind of by virtue of the fact that it is the earliest in the timeline.

But to answer your question, I own all three of the Dark Horse Zelda reference books (the third being Art & Artifacts) and the answer is: how much of a Zelda fan are you? If the answer is "pretty dang big" then you'll find something to get out of this, and no, there's no apparent focus on Skyward Sword above others.

Also, it only just barely touches on Breath of the Wild.
