I think the problem with that tweet is that, he said he refuse to review a game cuz he is afraid to be blacklisted, in case it turns out to be bad.

Yet, how do you know the game is bad if you never actually play it?

It feels like he already decide the game is bad without even touching it. He is the one who try to sell something.

Always wondered from the start if Naughty Dog ACTUALLY wanted to make this game.

I don't think they did. At least with Joel and Ellie. A lot of interviews the first couple of years after the game came out said their story was over.

Actually though, for people who actually don't believe the reviewers get paid off or are threatened if they give bad scores to high budget games, do you also actually believe video game reviewers are some sacred entity who hold themselves to extremely high standards?

They don't fucking get awarded for excellence or anything like that. Most of these people don't even have a journalism degree, let alone any writing or literature related degree. Half of them are just video game fans who know basic grammar and let the editors and the company have the last say.

Also these are companies that heavily depend on interactions with various video game developing companies. They're not like the standard newspaper that live off of ads.

Some think they are, but I'm also sure some think they aren't some pariah of writing. I just think it's stupid how there's a whole goddamn conspiracy about critics giving positive reviews on this game. Almost everyone I talked to that ACTUALLY played the game are either saying it's the best game they ever played (most of them are casuals) or that it's a good game with a garbage story (I'm kind of in this opinion right now, but I'm only 15 hrs in). Not one said that this is the worst game they ever played, but the people saying it are the ones review bombing the shit out of the game and making it their life mission to make it a consensus.

No doubt they are probably reviewers out there that get paid to give positive reviews, but I really do wonder if people give the exact same skepticism for any AAA game that gets highly praised from critics.

Honestly regardless of whether the critic score is accurate or not it is without a doubt closer than the user score is. Lol at how many people review bombed it cause of politics

I think everyone is just overreacting and the game is probably fine. If its like the first game then Ill really enjoy it two times and then never touch it again.

Lets be fair, the last of us 1 was mediocre too, it was just most people first cinematic game which is why it got rave reviews

It was pretty good imo, but a huge part of the appeal was presentation + production values. I played the game on ps3 and loved it, then I replayed the remaster on ps4 and was a lot less impressed because I remembered a lot of the set pieces and already knew the story

I'm pretty sure "blacklisting" a journalist who literally almost no one even knows wouldn't even be worth the publisher's time. Also, this is literally just the "journalist" interpreting what would happen to him if he gave it a bad review--He literally has no proof that they would do anything if he gave a bad review.
